Necessity:
Nowadays, we come across a huge global problem: desflorestation. The fact that the amount of trees in the planet is decreasing in a rate that we can no longer control is extremely concerning. This afects not only the amount of oxygen in the air, but also destroys the habitat of several living beings threatning biodiversity, increases erosion, decreases the fertility of soils, aggravetes global warming and, overall, affects the ecossystem.
The lungs of our planet are dying and we need to take action to resolve this catastrophe.
Thats why our project is so important. We aim to speed up the growth of trees making it more effective and resilient. With accelerated reforestation, we also plan to reduce all of the problems mention before.
With this idea we can establish the equilibrium of the ecossystems again. The simbiosis between mycorrhizal fungi and trees will make the rebirth of thousands of forests possible. The fungi can protect the roots of trees making them stronger. Trees will be able to persist throughout pests and fires., and therefore, the probability of forests dying will reduce immensely. Global warming will tend to be appeased, biodiversity will be restore and with stronger roots, the soils will no longer erode so easily. Another positive consequence will be cleaner water tables due to the filtration of tree roots.
We’re not just planting trees; we’re rebuilding ecosystems, fighting for a greener planet and giving hope back to future generations. Our product it's destined for those who want to make a big change in the world and help us reforest quickly and smarter.
Solution:
With this project we intend to create a product composed of a mixture of previously selected mycorrhizae that aims to improve plant growth, in a form of a powder. The package will be constituted of bioplastics, aiming to a greener production. In the manufacture of our product, we do not use hazardous or environmentally harmful materials and we guarantee its effectiveness through rigorous testing, aiming only at the well-being of the ecosystems and affected communities.
This little powder will change the growth of forests and consequencially, ecossystems and human health will improve. It will be available upon request, making it accessible to those interested in protecting the environment.
Benefits:
The symbiosis between mycorrhizal fungi and tree roots offers several benefits: It will be possible to reforest a huge burned area in a matter of a short time, and in general, with the right conditions, any other area is possible to have an accelerated reforestation. With this it brings many other positive aspects, such as, make groundwater cleaner, increase oxygen levels, reduce soil erosion, reduce biodiversity loss, and generally alleviate climate change. Trees are the base of life and if we can make them more resilient and stronger to pests and catastrophes, life will flourish again, making our planet a greener one.

Colaborations:
Along this process, we had the help of several people who made our project come together and be what it is now: The biologists Iuri Frías and Jõao Junqueira from Porto's Botanical Garden; Professor Doctor Paula Melo from FCUP; ICNF and our biology teacher Luísa Santos.
The Professor Paula Melo helped us to begin our project, she gave us some reserch and tips to build the base of this project. ICNF provide us the seeds that we needed to do the experimental procedure. The biologist gave us knowledge about botanics and helped us build our experimental protocol and our teacher has been given us a hand in everything we need.
